I'm over here across the pond in Bangkok, Thailand, fratting, and teaching English to young Thai children. Or if you prefer, running from life in the real world.

Back and better than ever

An update has been requested, and an update you shall have. Not a whole lot to report really. It does not feel like Christmas, or even December for that matter. While I have a Xmas tree up in my classroom, the fact that I am sweating while we are decorating it is just a little wrong. It does feel nice out tonight. And by nice I mean about eighty degrees and breezy. I don't even think freezers are cold here.
Last weekend I went to Chaing Rai, up in the mountains, which was wonderful. Except that my mounting respiratory infection decided to culminate on the trip and I was in bed while the others were climbing a mountain. It's all gravy though. I'm better now after a round of antibiotics.
The greatest thing that happened in Chaing Rai was meeting this guy called "The Doctor." He has this house which is open to the public during the day. The thing is that this "house" is actually about 20 buildings spread out on about six acres. And he built all of them. He's an architect and an artist it turns out. It gets better. So we're walking around this crazy weird place (all the building are black except for three white ones and he uses a lot of weaponry and animal skins and bones to decorate (reminded me strangely of Texas and my own bedroom with all the antlers)) anyway we're walking and I see this dude sitting on a bench. I turn to my friend Andy and say "Dude, that dude looks like Confucius." And he did, he had a two foot beard that came to a point and he is Asian. Then we find out that "Confucius" is actually the good doctor himself. THen we find out the prime minister of Thailand is actually staying in one of his rooms, about fifty feet from where I was standing. We weren't even supposed to be there, but the family we were with knows the guy.
So my friend is trying to communicate in broken Thai with this guy because my friend told him she speaks Thai kind of. Then all of the sudden Doc says, in perfect English, "You don't know Thai at all. Sorry my English isn't very good. My second tongues were German, Dutch, and French from studying in Europe." Turns out this guy is world famous and he lectures at Stanford and Oxford when he's not in Thailand. He also won a UNESCO prize last year. That was my latest brush with greatness. He invited us to stay and eat but we had to go. Shame. That's enough for today. I'm going to go outside somewhere now and get some real coffee and sweat because it's not hot. Maybe I'll go get a Christmas coffee at Starbucks. I love and miss you all. Say hi to American soil and weather that is colder than boiling water.

Carson -
As you know, I'd rather be sweating than freezing my a off. I'm working with stuff in the single digits and the teens and if I'm lucky the 20's. Willing to trade. But you'd be proud of me. I actually haven't quit life.
Are you going to be coming home for Christmas at some point?

Nords,
That's pretty big time man. I've kind of always wanted to see a two-foot beard...that guy just sounds like a stud (in the old asian intellectual sense of the word). Miss you bro--Peace
