My cornucopia was a little empty

Let me tell you about working on Thanksgiving. It is powerfully uncool. Of course it felt nothing like Thanksgiving here. No cool weather, no college football, no sleeping in past six am. We did eat an incredible meal. We ate an American buffet, well really a universal buffet, at the Sofitel here. Sofitel is a chain of posh, I think five star, hotels. We had food and wine for about forty five bucks. This meal would have literally cost hundreds of dollars in the states. All you can eat lobster, shrimp, steak, ostrich, veal, lamb, cheese, sushi…Yeah you get the point. And ostrich is one of the best things I have ever eaten. My friend Dave walked over to the dessert section, which was about ten tables, and said “Hold on, I’ve got to go sit back down, clear my head, and think about this.” After about five plates of food, we had to be a little choosy about dessert, having limited room left in our stomachs.

I believe absolutely that it is necessary to leave a place to realize how much you do or do not love it. I used to think I wanted out of Texas, mainly due to the weather. But I love Texas. I miss it. A lot. All of the important places in my life – my home, my alma mater, my grandparents’ houses - are give or take right off of I-35, and I have this urge to get in the car and drive it from the top of Texas to the bottom.

Sorry, if I am a little laconic and humdrum today, I’m just not feeling up to being clever or verbose. Probably because I was up this morning to go do tutoring. (It’s Saturday here.) But don’t worry, I would have been up at seven anyway because there is construction going on RIGHT OUTSIDE MY ROOM ALL DAY ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. So, vote for me for prime minister of Thailand, so that I can make construction on weekends illegal, especially before 10 am. I can’t do anything in my room, read, meditate, especially sleep, on weekends. It’s becoming a bit trying.

In better news, I discovered that Red Bull makes coffee. I had it this morning. I’m not sure what goes into it, I would posit maybe caffeine and speed, but it perked me right up this morning on the way to school. I mean, this thing has clout. What it does not have is a good taste, and I will probably never buy it again. I went in Starbucks the other day and they had out their Xmas stuff and Xmas drinks with peppermint and ginger etc. That was depressing. All I want for Xmas is cold weather, so if anyone finds a deal on it, send it over, I’ll cover the shipping.

HAPPY LATE THANKSGIVING TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOODNIGHT.

Jordan
